First Fire Float raises funds for Lock Haven Fire Department

ASHTON PETERS/FOR The Express People are seen enjoying some quality time on the Susquehanna River as part of the Fire Float, an event intended to bring community members together while raising funds for the Lock Haven Fire Department.
LOCK HAVEN — Despite a few passing rain showers, the first Fire Float made a successful debut in mid-August on the Susquehanna River.
The event, hosted by Schlesinger Communications Inc. and the Lock Haven Fire Department, was held Sunday and brought together families, friends and community members for a scenic float beginning at Peddie Park and ending at Lock Haven City Beach.
The float was closely monitored to ensure safety, with support from the Citizens Hose No. 5 Water Rescue Team, Clinton County EMA and the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission.
Vendors lined the beach, while fire apparatus were on display for visitors to tour and explore.
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Citizens Hose Fire Company and Eastside Fire Rescue, supporting the local volunteers who protect the community.
Participants shared their excitement, with one floater saying, “It’s amazing, I had a great float.”
With its successful first run, the Fire Float is already shaping up to be a new Lock Haven tradition — inviting everyone to “float your fanny down the Susquehannie.”
