Museum to host program on Laquin Civilian Conservation Corps camp

The LeRoy Heritage Museum will host a program titled, “Laying a Foundation for the Future: Laquin C.C.C. Camp S-103,” at 1:30 p.m., Aug. 30.

According to a news release, Museum President Matt Carl will present a new program focusing on the Civilian Conservation Corps camp at Laquin, and the work performed by the men of the camp on Barclay Mountain and along the Schrader Creek. Matt is the author of the book, “Laquin: The Rise and Fall of a Pennsylvania Lumber Town,” and had a great uncle who once worked at the Laquin C.C.C. camp.

This presentation will be held in the Lewis Opera House/Ballroom, located on the second floor of the LeRoy Heritage Museum, 10097 Route 414, Canton, PA 17724. Those requiring handicapped access should contact the museum in advance to inquire about the options available. There is a limit of 60 participants.

The museum is also open on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Come for the program and stay to browse the museum. A large selection of local history books and other items are available for purchase in the gift shop.
