Music Club plans late-October concert
Williamsport Music Club announces “A celebration of Music” at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in the sanctuary of Pine Street United Methodist Church.
According to a news release, the audience will participate in singing the song of the month to start out the program.
“The NFMC Music in Poetry and Song book is used at each month’s program,” the news release said. “It is filled with folk songs and piems to be shared throughout the year by clubs throughout the U.S. The October song is ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ by E. Lear and M. Bliss. The poem is Everyone Sang by Siegfried Sassoon. Charles Gethcell will present the song and poem. Kristin Ivers will accompany at the piano. The evening will feature beautiful music played on the Celtic harp by Wendy McCormick and Jamie Chambers playing flute. Together they will present a duet arrangement of ‘Danny Boy, arranged by Sunita Staneslow.”
“Wendy will then play a set of Celtic harp pieces. The audience will delight in ‘Bridget Cruise, Third Air,’ by Turlough O’Carolan, arranged by Sunita Staneslow; ‘Monday Morning Reel’ by Phil Cunningham; ‘Far Away by Pete Jung and ‘La Maison de Glace’ by Rejean Brunet.”
A flute trio of Jaime Chambers, Peggy Morehart and Lauren Welshans will perform. Collaborating with them is Melinda Sechrist on piano. Herman Beeftink is the composer.
According to the news release, Celtic Wood and Wires will be the club’s featured guest.
“They will entertain with lively Celtic tunes and selections that will be enjoyed for the second half of the evening’s program,” the news release said.
