Nearly 150 veterans were honored with gratitude, music, and student reflections during Montoursville Area School District’s annual Veterans Day Program, held in November, in a moving ceremony that brought together students, staff, families, and community members.

According to a news release, the event, organized by elementary librarian Karissa Jones and hosted in the Montoursville Area High School Auditorium, opened with an inspiring rendition of the National Anthem performed by high school student, Christian Berwanger, “setting the tone for the morning. Veterans, representing all branches of the military and spanning multiple generations, were welcomed with applause and appreciation.”

“The program featured essays presented by fourth-grade students, who shared personal stories and expressions of gratitude for family members who have served our country in the armed forces,” the news release said. “As the culminating activity, students from Loyalsock Valley Elementary and Lyter Elementary, grades K-4, joined voices in a heartfelt song of thanks and patriotism that brought smiles and tears to many in the audience. A highlight of the program was an inspirational message presented by a veteran to the students and guests, focusing on the power of curiosity and encouraging young minds to ask questions and seek understanding as our focus is not just about honoring the past, but also about inspiring the future.”
