Students compete in Americanism essay contest
There was a total of 55 students who participated in our Americanism Essay Competition from Lock Haven Catholic School. According to a news release from American Legion Auxiliary Unit 131, each and every student that participated received a personalized laminated “Certificate of Participation.”
First place in Class I (Aubrey Savrock), also placed first on Centre, Lycoming and Clinton Counties level and will be judged on levels throughout our state and could go on to the National level.
The essay topic was “Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday and the Veterans Who Fought for Our Freedom.”
In addition to Savrock, Sila Wert placed second and Adelyn Spamgler placed third for the third and fourth grades.
For the fifth and sixth grades, Sydney Walker won first place, Alex Miller won second place and Ethan Adgate won third place. For the seventh and eighth grades, Warren Miller placed first, Savannah Persun placed second and Finnegan Mcelroy placed third.
Awards and Certificates were presented at an assembly at Lock Haven Catholic School.
First, Second and Third place winners received monetary gift cards for Walmart, the news release said, and first place winner for Centre, Lycoming and Clinton Council also received a monetary gift card for Walmart. Certificates and awards were presented by William Marshall Crawford American Legion Auxiliary Unit #131’s President, Dori Schenck and Americanism Chair, Carol Wert Walker.
