Deane Center’s concert series to feature Wellsboro Men’s & Women’s Choruses

The Deane Center’s Free Outdoor Concert Series continues at 6 p.m. next Friday, June 5 with a performance by the Wellsboro Women’s and Men’s Choruses on the outdoor stage, which faces Central Avenue on the side of the Deane Center building at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.

The Wellsboro Women’s Chorus, conducted by Diana Frazier with Judy Smithgall at the piano, will sing “My Fair Ladies,” a medley of two songs from “My Fair Lady,” including “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly”; a medley of iconic show tunes from the musical “The King and I”; You’re My Best Friend”; “Here Comes the Sun”; “Can’t Help Falling in Love”; “A Wonderful Guy”; “Edelweiss”; and “Dancing Queen”.

According to a news release, the Wellsboro Men’s Chorus, directed by Christina Simonis with Gary Citro at the piano, will perform “Circle of Life” from “The Lion King”; “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen; “The Wellerman,” a popular YouTube song; and the men’s favorite, “”There’s No Business Like Show Business;” as well as several other selections. In addition, some of the men sing barbershop and will present “Goodbye, My Coney Island Baby,” “In the Good Old Summertime.” and the ever popular “Good Night Ladies.”

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the two groups will join in singing “O. America” and “God Bless The USA.”

This free concert is being held in conjunction with Wellsboro’s First Friday, a community street festival on Main Street that will be open from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on June 5 with local vendors, live music, food, artisan goods and special activities for kids, the news release said.

Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and sit in the grassy area in front of the outdoor stage or on Central Avenue, which will be closed to motor vehicle traffic between the side of the Warehouse Theatre building and Main Street. If it rains or there is a heat wave, this concert will be moved indoors.

The public is invited to attend any or all of the free concerts in the series made possible by sponsor UPMC Health Plan.

The four remaining free concerts are from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Fridays. They are: Van Wagner performing acoustic folk, bluegrass, and blues tunes based on Pennsylvania history on July 3; the Infared Radiation Orchestra singing and playing 1960s and 1970s psychedelic rock on Aug. 7; the Cadillac Cats performing funkin’ blues on Sept. 4; and Hot Rod Mule singing and playing hard-driving bluegrass and country music on Oct. 2.
