Library hosts ‘name the dinosaur’ contest
The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., is hosting a naming contest for its 2026 Summer Learning stuffy.
According to a news release, this year, Summer Learning is all about dinosaurs, paleontology, and archaeology, so the stuffed mascot is, of course, an adorable green triceratops. This dinosaur will be joining other beloved mascots Orange the Library Lion and Tangerine the Tiger.
The naming contest will begin Saturday, June 13, at the James V. Brown Library’s Summer Learning Kickoff event, and entries will be accepted through Monday, July 13, 2026. Entries must be appropriate for all ages, and participants are limited to one submission per person. You can submit entries at any Library Help Desk or, for your convenience, an online form! Dig into your creativity and help the Library unearth the perfect name for its dino mascot.
The winner will be announced on July 20, during the Library’s T-Rex Tea Party. The winner will be awarded a gift certificate to Otto Bookstore, a free stuffed dinosaur, and the opportunity to be featured on the Library’s social media accounts to officially reveal the dinosaur’s new name, the news release said. Registration is required to attend the T-Rex Tea Party; visit calendar.jvbrown.edu when registration opens on Monday, July 6, so you can be one of the first to hear the winning name.
