Museum to share lecture on Lewis and Clark expedition
Bruce Buckle will present “In Pursuit of the Lewis and Clark Expedition” at 2 p.m. on June 20 at the Thomas T Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society (LCHS). The lecture is being presented as part of the America250 Celebration and will be held in the communty room of the museum. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Buckle, a retired social studies teacher from Montoursville Area High School, was on the board of the Lycoming County Historical Society from 1993 through 2003, serving as president from 1998-2001.
According to a news release, his interest in the Lewis and Clark Expedition began when he “was inspired by Stephen Ambroses’s book Undaunted Courage,” which led him “to apply for a National Endowment for the Humanities grant to study the Journals of Lewis and Clark at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. It was a four week program focused upon Elliot Coue’s 1893 edition of the journals.” Buckle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Lafayette College. The lecture is co-sponsored by Catherine Burns insurance Services, Muncy, and the Lycoming County Visitors Bureau Travel & Tourism grant.
The museum is located at 858 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. For further information, please consult the museum’s website at www.tabermuseum.org or call 570-326-3326.
