Speakers at city library to discuss great dinosaur movies

The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., is offering a free program titled, “The Lost Worlds: Prehistoric Cinema,” a discussion of dino-cinema from the Jurassic Park franchise all the way to Toy Story and its sequels. The program will be presented by film critic Joseph Smith and Oscar-winner Tom Woodruff, Jr.

Joseph W. Smith III has an MA from New York University and has penned such books as The Best Movies You Never Saw, How to Write a Research Paper, and Transparency: A Cure for Hypocrisy in the Modern Church. Joe is currently a writer for Webb Weekly, West Branch Life, Northcentralpa.com, and more.

Tom Woodruff, Jr., was awarded an Oscar for Best Visual Effects for his work on the comedy Death Becomes Her (1992) starring Bruce Willis and Meryl Streep. He was also nominated for Best Visual Effects for his work on Alien 3 (1992). He has done effects and makeup for dozens of other films, including Tremors (1990), Cast Away (2000), Alien vs. Predator (2004), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Smile (2022). He’s worked with acclaimed directors such as James Cameron, David Fincher, and Robert Zemeckis, and he has numerous acting credits in both film and TV.
