Williamsport Music Club hosts state convention, performances

Williamsport Music Club recently met for its year-end business meeting, dinner and program. Pennsylvania Federation of Music Clubs President Kristin Ivers presented certificates to Ryan Workman, from both the state and National Federations of Music Clubs, that the club had been awarded in recognition of the previous season’s programming, according to a news release. She also recognized club members for their service for over 50 years as church musicians. Ivers then thanked both Ryan and Ann Workman for their time invested and service to the club over the past two years, serving as president and vice president.

Nomination Chair Kay Huffman presented the new slate of officers to the membership for voting. The slate was passed and three new directors were nominated and accepted. Ivers proceeded to conduct the National Federation of Music Clubs installation service of the 2026-28 officers. Marilyn Burget will serve as Williamsport Music Club president, the vice president position will remain vacant until filled and Donna Hensler will serve recording secretary. Mary Beth Kibbe will continue serving as corresponding and federation secretary, Leatha Kieser will continue serving as treasurer and Ivers will continue as librarian. The club directors are Ryan Workman, Kay Huffman and Marilyn Kern.

After the business meeting, everyone gathered in the sanctuary for the year-end program chaired by Scott Schell.

From May 21 to 23, representatives of clubs from across the state gathered for the Pennsylvania Federation of Music Clubs’ 90th biennial convention at the Holiday Inn, Williamsport, for the purpose of conducting business with the board of directors, hearing reports from the 16 state clubs, enjoying music from local musicians and celebrating the legacy of 110 years of the Pennsylvania Federation of Music Clubs.

The official opening of the convention began Friday, May 22, with the Repasz Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Jeffrey Dent, playing a 15-minute opening concert ahead of the official call to order. The brass ensemble also provided accompaniment for the singing of the National Anthem, as well as the national federation’s hymn. The Williamsport Music Club Vocal Ensemble performed two musical numbers, “We Sing!” and “Carry the Light.” A proclamation from the governor was read and a presidential citation of honor was presented to one of our outgoing Senior Club presidents recognizing her 17 years of service to her club.

The Williamsport Area High School Millionaire Strolling Strings, under the direction of Matt Radspinner, entertained during the president’s banquet and provided accompaniment to the singing of “Happy Birthday, PFMC!” Suzanne Revak-Fedele, Keystone Salute Chair, presented three local recipients with the state federation’s highest honor, the Keystone Salute Award. The honorees were Barbara Murray, DuShore; Dr. Charles L. Getchell, Williamsport and Walt Straiton, Williamsport. This award celebrates outstanding musical contributions and service to the community as well as the state federation.
