"As schools gear up for a new academic year, Eagle Grange #1 is stepping forward again to lend a helping hand to local students and their families," a news release says. "The second annual 'Prep for Success' free give away will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 32 East Blind Road, Montgomery."
The news release notes there is no charge or reservations requirement for this event so students and families are encouraged to stop in anytime during the event hours. Free school supplies, personal hygiene items and shelf-stable lunch foods will be distributed along with school backpacks donated by the local non-profit Oliver's Backpacks. A limited number of free haircuts will be offered; advance appointments for haircuts are suggested.
"Prep for Success is all about setting students up for a successful and confident start to the school year," said Jennifer Nauss, Secretary of Eagle Grange #1 and coordinator of the Aug. 15 event, according to the news release. "We're proud to partner with Oliver's Backpacks. Montgomery High School FFA members and other community volunteers to make it happen."
While some funding support for the project is being provided by a grant from the Rural Life Initiative, donations of items or cash from individuals or groups wishing to support this outreach effort will be much appreciated and increase the distribution. "This latest initiative joins another on-going project begun by the Grange in May to collect 1,000 pounds of plastic bags and film for recycling by April 30, 2026," the news release said. "The half ton of collected plastic will benefit the world's environment and earn a bench made of the recycled material for donation to a local park. All plastic must be clean, dry and free of food residue and may be placed in large covered collection bins located on the rear porch of the Grange Hall adjacent to the paved parking area.
