The Bloom Early Music Workshop is a celebration of medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music.
"We are pleased to carry on the tradition of our annual Labor Day Weekend Early Music Workshop exploring and sharing musical treasures from Medieval and Renaissance Europe with the Bloomsburg community in the acoustically splendid Saint Matthew's Church," said Musical Director Lawrence Lipnik, according to a news release.
For three days, from Sept. 4 - Sept. 6, participants play in small classes in the historic St. Matthew Lutheran Church under the tutelage of some of the finest early music instructors in the country. The relaxed schedule allows plenty of time for students to experiment in spontaneous groups as well.
The faculty is led by Lipnik, a founding member of the viol consort Parthenia and the vocal ensemble Lionheart. His performing and teaching engagements have included Wesleyan University and Amherst Early Music, as well as international festivals. His recent performances include concerts with the Venice Baroque Orchestra and the Folger Consort in Washington, DC.
Rainer Beckmann, music director of the Philadelphia Recorder Society, returns as a faculty member.
The free, informal musical presentation takes place at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at St. Matthew's sanctuary, 123 Market St., Bloomsburg. The performance is a gift from the workshop and the church to music lovers in the community.
