The Bradford County Historical Society will host a program titled, "Back to the Basics: From Settlement to Industry - Bradford County, 1810-1880," scheduled for Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
According to a news release, there is no admission charge, but donations are appreciated.
"Following its establishment in 1810, Bradford County experienced a gradual and distinctly rural form of industrialization that unfolded between 1810 and 1880," the news release said. "Unlike large factory centers, early industry developed around water-powered commerce which not only supported agriculture but utilized our natural resources as a means of production and survival. With a large focus on the Susquehanna River, communities started to form around the production and transportation of goods which would connect Bradford County to broader regional markets while remaining deeply rooted in its natural resources. In this second installment in the "Back to the Basics" series, local historian Michelle E. Knight will offer a deeper insight into Bradford County's rich history and development, from the establishment of the county in 1810 through 1880."
This presentation is part of the 2026 Friday Night at the Museum programming series that is held monthly from May through October. Each event is held in the Great Room at the Bradford County Historical Society, 109 Pine St., Towanda. The museum is open a half-hour prior to the event. Access to live streams of programming is available to members of the Society.
Other programs planned for 2026 include: Oct. 16, Special Interest Cars in Bradford County - 1975 and Before.
