The Lycoming County Agricultural Land Preservation Board is now accepting applications. The deadline for submitting applications is the close of business on Oct. 30, 2026.
According to a news release, participants in the Agricultural Land Preservation Program sell the development rights for their farm through a combination State and County purchase. Farms are required to be enrolled in an agricultural security to be eligible. Each easement must be 50 acres in size or adjacent to an existing easement and include at least 50% harvested cropland, pasture or grazing land.
While the farmer retains ownership, he or she is able to realize income from the farm and still have the assurance that the property will be available for agriculture forever. To date, Lycoming County has preserved 11,500 acres of farmland.
