Fall entries announced for CTL’s Ray of Light Awards

With school in session for a couple of months, many a young actor’s fancy turns to thoughts of the Ray of Light Awards.

The Community Theatre League kicks off another year of programing to develop and promote the efforts of area high school music theater and drama clubs.

Local high schools, generally with a 40-mile radius of CTL’s downtown location, present plays in the fall, and a musical in the spring as part of year-long adjudication.

Honoring the brightest and the best in high school theater, the annual Ray of Light Awards ceremony will be held on May 16 at the Community Arts Center, 220 West Fourth Street.

Open to the public and beginning with the red carpet treatment, the Ray of Light Awards are presented at 2 p.m., with a gala post-production party following the ceremony.

CTL emphasizes that the Ray of Light program is two-pronged. Some schools present a comedy or drama in the fall, and also stage a musical in the spring, while several other schools only present a big-scale musical in the second semester.

Seth Sponhouse (CTL’s executive director) and Philip J. Vonada (CTL’s general manager) have completed the orientation and training sessions for the panel of adjudicators, who travel to the competing schools in Lycoming, Clinton, Snyder, Bradford and Northumberland counties.

With a dozen or more schools expected to present a musical in the spring, the fall lineup of comedies or dramas submitted for the Ray of Light adjudicators are as follows:
