The Community Arts Center, in collaboration with the Uptown Music Collective, will present a live concert at 7:30 p.m. May 8 featuring vocalist and songwriter Brennan “Beane” Hepler.
Beane is fresh off of ABC’s “American Idol” stage, where he worked his way through a field of hundreds of contestants and ultimately broke into the top 12 before leaving the show after missing the Top 10 during the Oscar-Nominated Song round.
Beane’s performance is a continuation of the Community Art Center’s “Closer to Home” series that recently brought Gabe Stillman as well as Aaron Kelly to the CAC stage, a news release from the center said. The Closer to Home Series is sponsored by M&T Bank.
The performance at the Community Arts Center will feature many of the songs he performed on “American Idol,” alongside more of his favorites and his original music. Beane will be backed up by a group of Uptown Music Collective alumni and current students, led by former Collective student and current Berklee College of Music student Cade Palmatier.
Beane is the son of Bobbi and Chris Hepler. He is a graduate of Loyalsock Township High School, and also an alumnus of the Uptown Music Collective. During his time with the Uptown Music Collective, Beane worked with vocal teacher Kimberly Adair, and participated in the school’s Special Performance Group, taking in a variety of performances on the Community Arts Center stage, including Pink Floyd’s The Wall, Night with the Living Dead: The Twilight Zone, and Motown: From Detroit to L.A. As well as directing the school’s production Blue and Green: An Evening of Contemporary Jazz and Art.
“Brennan, the man we now know as Beane, was always a highly motivated and passionate student of music, with a great work ethic, and a great voice,” said Dave Brumbaugh, executive director of the Uptown Music Collective, according to the news release. “I really felt that his character, professionalism, and musicality shone through under the bright lights of American Idol. While those types of shows are not my cup of tea, it was exciting to watch him light up the TV screen with his personality and musical magnetism. I’m looking forward to seeing him perform live again during this upcoming performance.”
After high school Beane went on to study music at the renowned Berklee College of Music, where he majored in music business and management, graduating in 2019. In 2017 he released an EP titled “Human Beane,” and has continued to drop singles in the time since. Currently, Beane is a resident of Boston, where he has worked as a wedding singer and waited tables at Club Passim.
“I can’t wait to put on this homecoming show with people I’ve played with years ago,” said Beane, according to the news release. “It will be a great full-circle moment that I’m excited to celebrate with my community. You’re going to hear songs from my Idol experience and my own original compositions, but they are all songs that I wish I had written.”
