Loyalsock Township grad advances on ‘American Idol’

Brennan Hepler, known as Beane, a Loyalsock Township High School alumnus, has successfully made it through the first part of the Hollywood Week round on American Idol this week.

He performed a duet, singing “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles and then a solo in the Genre Challenge, which allowed each contestant to choose a genre of music and compete a solo in that genre. His solo performance got a standing ovation from the judges and with that, moved onto the next part of the competition.

“I know he is very confident in what he is doing,” said his dad, Chris Hepler. “But as any parent, I still get butterflies. I feel a range of emotions.”

According to Hepler, the Hepler family has hosted watch parties and dinners for close friends to cheer Beane on.

“We all gather to watch,” he said. “I loved his song from Monday night. I love everything he does.”

He added that he loves to hear Beane sing older R&B music.

“I really enjoy listening to him,” he said. “Words can’t express how excited I am. The doors of opportunity that this is going to present to him…they could potentially be endless. This is something he has worked tirelessly for since he was five or six. He really builds off of the crowd, he is very confident and enjoys entertaining everyone.”
