Jane Austin play planned in Milton
What happens when Cupid’s arrow backfires?
Christ Wesleyan Theatre Productions, thanks to Jane Austin’s classic, provides the answer in “Emma.”
Billed as a “comical stage play,” “Emma” will be presented at 7 p.m. on June 10, 11 and 12, with a 2 p.m. matinee on June 12, in the auditorium ( Door No. 6), 363 Stamm Road, Milton. The parking lot is located directly in front of and beside the auditorium.
In this adaptation by Michael Bloom, Emma Woodhouse, who prides herself as being a matchmaker with an impeccable track record, urges sweet Harriet Smith to reject a perfectly good marriage proposal in favor of another supposedly eligible bachelor.
Mr. Knightley, a dear friend of “Emma,” is chagrined at her latest “scheme”. Fortunately, these best laid plans are turned upside-down by unpredictable displays of affection and unexpected rivals.
Just in the nick of time, and before the happy ending,, “Emma” suddenly realizes that true love may have been under her nose all along.
Pastor Ryan Brosious directs this screwball comedy with suprises aplenty (also appearing in a cameo role), with Carole Brosious serving as assistant director.
Heading the cast are Christine Hilterman as Emma Woodhouse, and Seth Confer, playing George Knightley.
Featured roles will be played by Katie Corbeill as Harriet Smith, and Fred Hooper as Henry Woodhouse.
The large cast in this fast-paced adaptation also includes: Mark Allred, Corey Woodcock, Nathan Crawford, Cameron Edinger, Rebekah Richardson, Natalie Logan, Chris Dailey, Tara Allred and Ray Randall.
All searing is general admission.
Tickets are available at CWC’s The Well Read Bookstore, church office (Entrance No. 1), and in the foyer (unless sold out) prior to each performance.
