Theatre group plans outdoor performance of bestseller’s adaptation in Millville

With the Alvina Krause Theatres still shuttered for in-door patrons due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the professional regional theater group is moving to an outdoor venue.

The Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble will present the stage adaptation of “Tiny Beautiful Things,” live in-person at the Greenwood Friends School in Millville beginning at 6:30 p.m. for three weekends, from May 21 through June 6.

In order to safely socially distance the attendees, BTE is limiting the number of tickets available for each performance.

Based on a 2012 national best-seller, “Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar,” follows an advice columnist — revealed to be Cheryl Strayed — as she relates her experiences with advice-seekers from all walks of life.

This production is directed by Andrew Hubatsek and Michael Yerges, and features Amy Rene Byrne as “Sugar.”

Although the questions posed often call for short and simple answers, other topics involving serious subjects prompt the advice columnist to confront her own personal fears, hopes, and traumas.

While acknowledging that “life can be hard,” the author frankly concludes that “there is no cure except to live the hell out of our lives, to take it apart, to put it back together, to dig it all up, and fill the hole.”

BTE emphasizes that the whole ensemble will participate in the storytelling “about reaching out when you’re stuck, healing when you’re broken, and finding the courage to take on the questions that have no answers.”

An alert for patrons: “Little Beautiful Things” is meant for an adult audience, and discusses themes of depression, drug abuse, sexual assault, and physical abuse.

Billed as “a perfect balm for a case of the lonelies,” there is a cost for admission.

With very limited seating, tickets must be purchased in advanced, and are available: www.bte.org; or telephone 570-784-8181

Starting at $2.99/week.
