First Friday to have new selfie-wall, kids crafts
A community-favorite event, First Friday, is coming up this week, leading into the Fourth of July holiday, with a new and themed selfie-wall outside of Alabaster Coffee and “Americana” themed kids craft outside of the Lycoming Arts office.
“The businesses are open later for First Friday, so come on down, stop by the shops and see what they have going on,” said Shanin Dougherty, co-chair of the First Friday committee.
This month, First Friday is introducing the new selfie-wall which will be themed each month. The wall, which will be chalk art on the Pine Street wall next to Alabaster Coffee will be stenciled on the wall by Lycoming Arts and will be available for anyone to take their pictures in front of and share to their social media.
This month’s theme will be “Americana” themed for the holiday. Dougherty suggests those who take photos to share and tag LycomingArts, UPMC and WilliamsportFirstFriday on Facebook and Instagram.
There will also be another Lycoming Arts2Go project for kids at the Lycoming Arts office on West Fourth Street. The project will be creating “festive patriotic windsocks” that will feature the Old Glory symbol.
As usual, the event will have nine food vendors this month including Fddies, Real Taste, Melcye Bubble Tea, Bruster’s and Taco Bill’s alongside Dir Rosco Arrosticini, In Whites, Megan Horne Cotton Candy and Derone’s Dynamite Dogs.
There will be an additional 40 vendors with tables alongside West Fourth Street with handmade crafts and original artwork.
Performances can be seen on Pine Street and the outdoor stage at the Community Arts Center from 6 to 8 p.m. Ash & the Fax can be seen at Pine Street and the Autumn Winds Sax Quartet. At 5:30 p.m. at the CAC outside stage, there will be a special preview performance from the case of Spongebob the Musical. All music is sponsored by Woodland’s Bank.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. and from West Fourth Street from Market to Hepburn streets will be pedestrian only beginning at 4 p.m. and parking will not be allowed on West Fourth Street after 3 p.m. There will be plenty of parking around the downtown area. The Williamsport First Friday Facebook page will have a map available for parking as well as additional information.
The event, which has UPMC Susquehanna as its lead sponsor, is rain or shine and will take place regardless of rain. The stores will remain open later for First Friday.
