‘Feel the different parts of America’: Impractical Joker Joe Gatto ‘excited’ to perform in Williamsport

Well-known comedian, actor and producer Joe Gatto will bring his live comedy show, “Joe Gatto’s Night of Comedy,” to Williamsport’s Community Art Center on April 14

Gatto, who is best known for his hit TV shows “Impractical Jokers” and “The Misery Index,” has been on his solo tour for a little over a year.

“It’s been interesting. It’s been my foray into stand up comedy, solo, which is a little different from what I’m used to, performing live. Of course, I used to be on stage with the boys, the four of us, but now it’s just me. But it’s been fantastic. I’ve really enjoyed the stand up format, how the shows have gone, what they’ve created — and excited for people to see it … people have been coming out and enjoying themselves,” Gatto said.

During his stand up show, Gatto often tells stories about his own life experiences.

“People have known me for a long time from being on TV and it’s me, I wasn’t playing a character — It’s not like I’m Chandler from Friends. …People come out who have known me from television to get to know me a little bit more, which has been such a really cool thing to experience,” Joe said.

“I get up there and give them more of what they want, which is basically stories about how I’ve become me and whatnot,” Gatto said. “What I like to do with my time, how to mess with people in real life. I tell them stories about my time with jokers, the boys and stories of our friendship growing up. And then more about stuff that’s just me: fatherhood now with my kids and how we’re experiencing that, my rescue dogs, and one of the biggest influences in my life was my crazy Italian mother. I talk a little bit about my upbringing with her and her influence on me and stuff like that,” he added.

According to Gatto, one of his favorite parts about touring is getting to meet the fans.

“I love meeting the people, the meet and greet stuff that I do. …The meeting of the fans is just always spectacular, because you realize you’ve been in these people’s homes, making them laugh, bonding as a family. It’s so important to me. Growing up, that’s a huge thing for me and my father, so to be like that for people is not lost on me. I think it’s really cool,” he added.

During his tour across America, Gatto also enjoys exploring the cities and visiting local shops.

“Being out and about in the town and seeing all these cool spots is really fun — I’ve been going through all of America and you get to feel the different parts of America and see different types of people. …I’m excited for Williamsport. I’m actually getting into town a little early so I get to hit up the main street, pop around, do a little shopping, eat, and things like that,” Gatto said.

“That’s one of my favorite parts of touring is getting in a little bit early, going down to the downtown area, Main Street. I kind of see what boutiques, mom and pops are around, and get some local food. I love hitting up places like a local coffee shop or dessert place and getting a feel for that,” Gatto said.

In addition to being on tour, Gatto is working on creating a feature film, has written a children’s book and is co-host of the podcast “Two Cool Moms.”

“I’ve always wanted to be a writer and director of feature films. That’s why I entered this business a long time ago. I got kind of sidetracked with my decade-career with Jokers, which is a fun tangent. I’m back at that and trying to get some feature film stuff done,” Gatto said. “I also wrote a kids’ book, which is great. I’m excited for that to come out next year,” he added.

“Before Jokers, I worked at a baby store, Giggles. I was a baby store salesman at this high end furniture and gear baby store. They had kids books and I always liked them, and then being a father and reading to my kids … I had a story I wanted to tell, so I got to be able to do that,” Gatto said.

Gatto does his podcast alongside fellow comedian Steve Byrne.

“We just had our 55th episode so we’ve been doing it over a year and it’s just a fun format. We both had cool mothers growing up who gave great maternal advice. So we think we inherited that, so spend the first half of the pod just talking about whatever and then the second half we actually take questions from fans through our Instagram and you know, help them as best we can,” Gatto said.
