Noted plein air artist to present at Bald Eagle Art League meeting

Plein air artist Debra Moffitt will present “BALANCING ACT: Exploring and Using Notan to Strengthen Your Artwork” during the Bald Eagle Art League’s monthly meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Thomas Taber Museum, 858 W. Fourth St.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

Notan, or the harmonic relationship of Dark and Light, is a basic element of art. It can be found in architecture, sculpture and painting, in textiles, interior design and pottery. Join Debra as she explores the concept of Notan through the works of past and current master artists and describes her recent journey in using this principle to photograph, sketch and paint the landscapes in our area.

Debra recently moved to the Williamsport area from Maryland and is eagerly exploring her new home. She enjoys capturing a variety of landscapes across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast region, from the Allegheny Mountains to the marinas and marshes of the coast. The Susquehanna River, with its scenic beauty and historic towns, has in particular become her muse.

Debra has been an active Plein Air painter for the past 17 years, participating in a variety of juried shows and consistently winning awards in local and regional competitions. Debra’s intent is to capture the essence of the place and the moment, whether it be an atmosphere of serenity or activity or a place of historic importance or festive recreation. The interplay of light and shadow over forms captures her attention and imagination and her hope is to communicate that vision, emotion and meaning throughout her art.

This year, Debra is excited to participate as a Juried Artist in both the River Towns Plein Air (April) and the Plein Air West Reading (June) shows, and as an invited demo artist at the LHJams Festival in August. She is also our Featured Artist at the Genetti Hotel for the months of July/August.

Starting at $2.99/week.
