A "Halloween Horror Spectacular" is coming to the Community Arts Center on Monday, Oct. 30. James Whale's classic, "The Bride of Frankenstein," will be screened during a special one-night-only event featuring an appearance and presentation by Sara Karloff, "daughter of the Monster himself: the late, great Boris Karloff," the CAC announced in a recent press release.
Academy Award-winner Tom Woodruff Jr. will also be on hand to talk about the cultural fascination with the unknown and give insight into special effects and creature design.
"We're excited to bring feature films back to the CAC after an extended absence, and having Sara and Tom join us to talk about their experiences should make this an incredible Halloween treat," Jim Dougherty, executive director of the Community Arts Center, said via the press release.
"Considered among the earliest psychological horror films, 'The Bride of Frankenstein' examines what it means to be human, and blurs the line between the monstrous and the divine," the release said. "One of the first horror sequels in Hollywood history, 1935's 'Bride' serves a dual role as both a chilling monster movie and a transgressive allegorical exploration of gender stereotypes and sexuality in pre-war America."
