‘At their very best’ — Dancing with the Stars: Live! brings all-new tour to Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport

Sparkling mirrorball champions and ballroom dance professionals are taking the stage in an all new national tour that’s stopping by downtown Williamsport.

Get ready to experience the lights, the music, fringe and Dancing with the Stars professional dancers “at their very best,” according to Dancing with the Stars: Live! cast member, dancer and choreographer Jenna Johnson.

You don’t want to miss the Dancing with the Stars Live! cast perform their “curated theater show” at the Community Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

“It’s beautiful,” Johnson said. “There is a storyline. The pros are dancing for two hours at their very best.”

The show brings together all of the DWTS professional dancers including Johnson, Val Chmerkovskiy, Rylee Arnold, Pasha Pashkov, Gleb Savchenko, Britt Stewart, Brandon Armstrong, Daniella Karagach, Emma Slater and Artem Chigvinstev as well as stars from this past season including Xochitl Gomez, Charity Lawson and Harry Jowsey.

Some of the dancers and celebrities will only appear at certain dates. Julianne Hough will also be a special guest at certain performances.

The 2023 DWTS Len Goodman Mirrorball champions, Chmerkovskiy and Gomez, will be at the CAC show.

On tour, “there are a lot more group numbers and (the professionals) are really featured,” Johnson said. “We have one celebrity (from the past DWTS season) on the road with us at a time.”

The pros will perform various styles of dance that are seen on the show including ballroom and Latin pieces like quickstep and jive, as well as contemporary and jazz pieces.

Johnson added that there are multiple storylines explored through dance during the show.

“There are different storylines and sections that all have a similar energy to them. There is a special section in the beginning that is old Hollywood that is really, really fun,” Johnson said. “The whole cast is in it and gets to play different characters.”

Johnson added that she also has a piece with all of the boys in the cast.

The rehearsal process was an intense two-week experience with award-winning choreographer Mandy Moore.

“Mandy Moore is one of a kind,” Johnson said. “She is one of the most gifted people I have ever met or worked with.”

She added that Moore created an “incredible environment to be creative and be excited about.”

“There was a ton of laughter (in the rehearsals) that kept us motivated,” Johnson said. “If we were ever stuck inside too long or she (Moore) was struggling with something, she would say we needed a ‘sunshine break’ and take a deep breath outside.”

“I am so proud of this show,” Johnson said. “I am so grateful to be on this cast with these incredible dancers.”

One of those dancers happens to be Johnson’s husband, Val Chmerkovskiy.

The two have choreographed two duets that they will perform in the show.

“During the season, we are choreographing for someone else, so it is a different experience choreographing for yourself and tapping into what you’re both best at,” Johnson said. “I think we are both passionate dancers together… we love telling stories through dance. We have learned a lot over the years how to choreograph for one another. We wanted to create something that would feel good to perform.”

“These (duets) are some of my favorites I have ever done,” she added.

This year marks a special tour for the couple, as they are traveling with their son, Rome.

“We haven’t been on the road in two years,” Johnson said. “The thing I’ve missed the most about touring is seeing fans and giving them an intimate night of performance… (this is) a unique experience touring with our baby. I want to thank Dancing with the Stars for accommodating and being able to share this experience with my son and husband. I am really grateful this year.”

Though VIP tickets to meet the cast are sold out at the Community Arts Center, there are still some tickets available for sale.

“I can’t wait to meet everyone when they come to the show… being able to meet people that voted for us all season; it is such a special intimate experience meeting them face to face,” Johnson said. “Come with excited hands to clap and you’re going to have an amazing night. The more you applaud, the harder we dance. The rowdier the crowd, the more energy.”
