Community Theatre League presents ‘A Few Good Men’

“A Few Good Men” will take the Community Theatre League’s main stage this weekend, with showtimes slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a matinee showing at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Catch it again next weekend, Feb. 8 through 11, with showtimes at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and a matinee showing at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Community Theatre League, 100 W. Third St., Williamsport, is proud to present the “gripping” play, directed by Phil Vonada, the theater announced in a press release.

“A Few Good Men” is Aaron Sorkin’s groundbreaking debut that delves into the compelling narrative of a group of military lawyers assigned to defend two Marines in Guantanamo Bay. As the trial unfolds, they stumble upon a high-level conspiracy aimed at eliminating weaker soldiers in the name of patriotism.

“This thought-provoking production provides audiences with a glimpse into the complexities of duty, honor and justice,” the release said.

“‘A Few Good Men’ deals a lot with power dynamics and discerning whether there’s a gray area in the truth. The core characters are each strong in their convictions, but surely everyone can’t be right, right?” Vonada said. “This powerhouse cast is bringing fresh life into characters that many people know well from the movie. We have been working to find moments of levity in a dense script, while also giving great respect to a sensitive topic.”

Vonada brings to life Sorkin’s acclaimed work that premiered on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre on Nov. 15, 1989, according to the release. The 1992 film adaptation, directed by Rob Reiner, starred Hollywood icons Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon and Kiefer Sutherland.

The theater notes that, due to the mature content, this show may not be suitable for those under the age of 18.

“At CTL, our mission is to enrich, educate and entertain our community. ‘A Few Good Men’ exemplifies the quality and depth of performances we strive to bring to Williamsport,” said Seth Sponhouse, executive director of Community Theatre League. “We are proud to present this impactful production and invite everyone to be a part of the experience.”

“I’m very grateful to be working with this cast and production team, and thankful that the Community Theatre League is a home for artists to stretch their wings outside of working hours,” Vonada added. “Support the local arts!”
