“Imagine being a fan of the worst team in Major League Baseball. Year after year, you watch as your beloved team posts another lackluster year. If only you could do something to help them win…”

That’s the premise of “Damn Yankees,” a musical comedy being performed this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 15-17, at Jersey Shore Area Senior High School, according to a news release from the school district.

The show is 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The musical shares the story of Joe Boyd, performed by Niko Haldeman. Boyd is a long-time fan of the Washington Senators baseball team. The team, it seems, can do nothing right season after season. This includes their inability to beat their rivals, those “Damn Yankees.” Joe complains enough that it attracts the attention of Mr. Applegate (Jack Fetzer), who is actually the devil. Applegate offers Boyd the chance to become a slugger for the Senators with a stipulation: He must leave his wife, Meg (Briar Cohick).

After making a deal with Applegate, Boyd is transformed into Joe Hardy (Charlie Snook), who takes MLB by storm, joining the Senators, the news release said. Suddenly, their season turns around, thanks to Hardy. Hardy is proud of his team, but begins to miss his wife. Boyd has until the Senators’ final game to decide whether to return to his former self. Applegate, worried that Boyd will back out and the devil will lose his soul, works hard to keep Boyd from going back. Will the Senators beat the Yankees for the pennant? Will the devil get to keep Boyd’s soul? Will Boyd and Meg reunite?

These questions will be answered as the comedy progresses through a host of catchy tunes.

Also appearing in this year’s production are: Sarah Andrus as Sister; Gracie Phillips as Doris; Phoebe Henry as Henry; Kate Fravel as Sohovik, Camryn Segura as Smokey; Adriana Bufford as Vernon and the postmaster; Joseph Eisley as VanBuren; Kevin Larry as Rocky; Laurel Demers as Gloria Thorpe; Emilee Eisner as Lynch and the commissioner; Leland Entz as Welch; Kaden Walker as Bryant; Carson Watkins as Lowe; Cady Doud as Mickey; Melody Watson as Miss Weston; Gracie Hostrander as the guard; and Sam Davis as the radio announcer. Also appearing will be Carley Doud, Gracie Hostrander, and Breanna Myers as fans; Laurel Demers, Emilee Eisner, and Melody Watson as wives; Cady Doud, Joseph Eisley, and Kevin Larry as husbands. Shoeless Joe cameos will feature Justin Armbruster and David Bittner.
