WSO presents a night of ‘cowboy music’

Break out the cowboy boots for the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra’s next performance, “Wild West Adventures: A Night of Cowboy Music.”
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.
Led by Maestro Gerardo Edelstein, the orchestra “will take you on a captivating exploration of the Wild West, paying homage to its enduring legacy through a series of dynamic and vibrant American staples,” according to a press release announcing the show.
“You’ll be transported to the open plains and rugged landscapes of the West, experiencing the energy and excitement of the orchestra as they showcase a repertoire inspired by the Americana spirit,” the release said.
Featured songs will include “From Rodeo: Saturday Night Waltz, Hoe-Down” and ” Lincoln Portrait” by Aaron Copland, as well as “Grand Canyon Suite” by Ferde Grofe and “a stirring rendition” of the hymn “America the Beautiful,” arranged by Alfred Reed.
Assistant Conductor Timothy Farrand will conduct the opening piece, “The Cowboys Overture” by John Williams.
“Farrand brings a wealth of musical talent and experience to the stage,” the press release said, adding that his background “will enrich your concert experience.”
“This western concert promises to be a rustic and adventurous music experience, celebrating the legends of the Wild West and showcasing the incredible talents of our accomplished musicians,” the release said.
