CTL to present regional premiere of ‘The Prom’
According to a press release, the Community Theatre League will present the regional premiere of the hit musical “The Prom,” with shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday; as well as 7:30 p.m. June 20-22, and 2 p.m. June 23 at their Mainstage Theatre.
“The show promises to be a vibrant, heartwarming and humorous production that captures the spirit of inclusivity and love,” the press release said.
“The Prom” follows four eccentric Broadway stars who are in desperate need of a new stage. When they learn of a brewing controversy around a small town’s prom, they see an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the issue — and on themselves. The town’s parents aim to keep the high school dance strictly traditional, but one student’s wish to bring her girlfriend to prom changes everything. On a mission to transform lives, Broadway’s brassiest join forces with a courageous girl to change hearts and open the minds of the town’s citizens. The result is a love that brings them all together.
“‘The Prom’ masterfully blends humor and heart, delivering a classic musical comedy with an important message for today’s audiences,” said the press release.
Leading the musical’s creative team is Marie Fox (director), Amanda Haney (music director) and Kat Shondeck (choreographer).
The production stars Rubie Natal as Emma; Hannah McBride as Alyssa; Katie Conklin as Dee Dee; Steven Lindenmuth as Barry; Tim Hippensteel as Trent; and Abby Simon as Angie. A large and dynamic ensemble rounds out the cast, bringing the town and high school to life with their energy and talent.
“We are beyond thrilled to bring ‘The Prom’ to our stage. This musical is not only entertaining but also deeply moving with its message of love and acceptance,” said CTL’s executive director Seth Sponhouse. “It’s an important message for our community, our nation and our world.
“The cast and crew have been working tirelessly to bring this story to life with all the humor, heart and high-energy musical numbers that make ‘The Prom’ such a hit,” added Sponhouse. “This is a show that resonates with people of all ages, and we encourage everyone to come and experience this joyous production.”
The press released mentioned that opening night attendees are encouraged to dress in their prom best to add to the festive atmosphere of the premiere.
“Feel free to come dressed as if you are heading to prom,” Sponhouse said. “It’s going to be a night to remember.”
Attendees should note that “The Prom” contains some language and sexual innuendo and may not be suitable for younger children, the press release said.
