Grammy Award-winning blues artist concludes Weis Center’s spring season
LEWISBURG — According to a press release, Bucknell University’s Weis Center for the Performing Arts will end its spring 2025 season with Grammy Award-winning blues artist Ruthie Foster at 7:30 p.m. on April 25 in the Weis Center Concert Hall, 525 Weis Drive.
In January 2025, Foster received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album for her new release, “Mileage.”
Foster’s musical journey is as eclectic and vibrant as her soulful voice. Born into a gospel-rich family in Gause, Texas, she was influenced by her mother, grandmother and artists like the Gospel Keynotes and the Blind Boys of Alabama. Initially shy, Foster embraced her talent, thanks to encouragement from her family and church community.
After studying music and serving in the Navy, where she performed with the Navy band Pride, Foster signed a development deal with Atlantic Records and honed her skills in New York City’s songwriting community. She eventually returned to Texas, blending blues, folk and gospel into a unique sound.
Foster’s acclaimed albums include “Mileage,” “Runaway Soul,” “The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster,” “The Truth According to Ruthie Foster,” and “Healing Time.” She has collaborated with artists like Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, further highlighting her versatility. Previously nominated five times, Ruthie won her first Grammy with 2024’s “Mileage.”
“Ruthie’s rich storytelling and authenticity have captivated and inspired audiences worldwide. With ‘Mileage,’ she invites listeners on a soul-stirring voyage, echoing her rich heritage and life experiences,” the press release said.
