LEWISBURG -- According to a press release, the Lewisburg Arts Council will present "Majestic Rural Pennsylvania," an inspiring group exhibition by the Farmland Preservation Artists of Central Pennsylvania. On view from May 3-24, the show will be held at The Gallery, 15 North Water Street.
This curated collection features artwork that celebrates the agricultural landscapes, working farms, and rural communities of Central Pennsylvania. The exhibiting artists work in a variety of media including oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, and photography. Through their art, they promote awareness of and appreciation for farmland preservation efforts in the region.
All participating artists are members of the Farmland Preservation Artists of Central PA, a collective that donates a portion of art sales to support the Centre County Farmland Trust. To date, the trust has preserved 17 farms and continues its mission to protect open space and agricultural heritage.
The opening day will feature a live demonstration by artist Susan Nicholas Gephart (1:00-1:30 p.m.), followed by an open-air "Shoot-and-Paint" where artists of all skill levels are invited to paint, sketch or photograph in the gallery garden and nearby areas. Registration is required.
An opening reception with brief remarks from Elizabeth Burke, Dan Guss of the Centre County Farmland Trust, and Susan Nicholas Gephart, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.
Participating artists for the exhibit include: R. Thomas Berner, a photographer and author known for documenting barns across PA; Martha Grout Taylor, an artist and President of the Farmland Preservation Artists; Lori Rockwell, an award-winning painter and local musician; Susan Nicholas Gephart, a nationally recognized Plein Air artist and instructor; Avis Jones, an oil painter inspired by Impressionism and Pennsylvania's natural beauty; Jeff Mathison, an artist capturing the light of Pennsylvania's changing landscapes; Joanne Juhl, a nature painter focusing on quiet, peaceful outdoor scenes; Brienne M. Brown, a watercolorist inspired by everyday life and Plein Air moments; Kim Gates Flick, an artist and arts advocate honoring land stewardship through art; and Jim Valent, a visual storyteller focused on rural landscapes and preserving memories.
