SVC to perform ‘The Best of 30 Years’ pops concert
SELINSGROVE — The Susquehanna Valley Chorale will end its current performance season with its pops concert, “The Best of 30 Years (Part 1),” a press release said. The performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. May 2-3 at Susquehanna University’s Weber Auditorium.
“This year’s program is a true cornucopia, with songs spanning several decades, featuring many eras and styles of music,” the press release said.
The SVC is celebrating Bill Payn’s 30 years as conductor and music director by going through the archives and pulling out some of his — and audience — favorites. Since there are too many tunes for just one concert, the SVC will stretch it across two seasons.
“It’s sure to be a fun trip down memory lane — with a parade of costumes coming out of storage for the occasion,” said the release.
The SVC will be joined by the SVC Stage Band and soloists for this concert include: Amy Caron, Owen Davis (a scholarship student), Josh Dearing, Marilyn Gresh, Marina Gresh, and Steve Jordan; with duets by Jessica Strouse and Carson Witherite, and Rebecca Lipsky (a scholarship student) and Molly Manhoff (a scholarship student); and a trio of Kathi Beiter, Natalie VanFleet, and Jennifer Wakeman.
The Chorale performs under the direction of Bill Payn; Fred Hooper will return as emcee.
Some of the featured songs include: “Celebration,” “As Times Goes By,” “Rock Around the Clock,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “I Heard it Through the Grape Vine,” “Yesterday,” “Seasons of Life” and “California Dreamin’.”
The Sponsor for the Pops performance is Dede Gronlund, Co-Sponsors are Patricia and James Apple, Charles B. Degenstein Foundation, Lore Degenstein, Judy and Robert Hontz and Coleen and Ron Renshaw. Underwriters are Dawn Dietz, and Anne and Tom Gates.
