CTL bringing ‘9 to 5: The Musical’ to stage this month

According to a press release, the Community Theatre League will clock in for an outrageously fun run of shows when it presents the bold, hilarious and empowering comedy “9 to 5: The Musical” later this month. Performances will run June 20-22, 26-29 with shows at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Featuring music and lyrics by the incomparable Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick, co-writer of the original hit 1980 film, “9 to 5: The Musical follows” three working women in the late-1970s. These women — Doralee Rhodes (Michaela Tloczynski), Judy Bernly (Megan Fisher) and Violet Newstead (Rachel Druckenmiller) — are fed up with their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot of a boss, Franklin Hart Jr. (Donnie Mapes).

“What follows is a wild and witty tale of sweet revenge, corporate takeover, and female empowerment, all set to a toe-tapping score,” the press release said.

Directed by Denise Clark, with music direction by Theodore Lentz and choreography by Sydney Harris, the production stars a powerhouse cast of local talent bringing this high-energy story of friendship, feminism, and fierce office politics to life.

Along with Tloczynski, Fisher, Mapes and Druckenmiller, the rest of the cast includes: Kat Shondeck, Seth Confer, Cale Blakely, Malachi Watson, Christen Buck, Steve Aguirre, Darlene Garcia-Johnson, Kim Fulmer, Sarah Taylor Hafer, Paul Young, Ryan Lannan, Laura Ulrich, Doug Powers, Connor Hill, Madeline Williamson, Caroline Cipriani, Yvette Klopp, Alyssa Lair, Mark Patrick and Rebekah Richardson.

“At a time when many of the hard-fought rights achieved through the women’s liberation movement of the 1970s are once again under threat, ‘9 to 5’ serves as both a celebration and a reminder,” said Seth Sponhouse, Executive Artistic Director of CTL. “This show is packed with humor and music, but at its heart, it honors the resilience and power of women who refused to stay silent. We’re proud to put this story on stage with a cast and creative team full of strong voices.”

“Whether you’re a longtime Dolly Parton fan or just love a good story about women taking charge, ‘9 to 5: The Musical’ is a can’t-miss summer hit bursting with laughter, heart, and harmony,” said the press release.
