Student Summer Stock production of ‘Sister Act: The Musical’ coming to CAC
The Community Theatre League, in collaboration with the Lycoming College music department and with support from the Pennsylvania College of Technology, is set to present “Sister Act: The Musical” as part of its Student Summer Stock, a press release said. The show will run from July 11-13.
“This uplifting and comedic production will showcase the talents of local high school students, currently in grades 9 through 12, in a spectacular performance filled with soulful music, dynamic choreography, and a heartwarming story,” the press release said.
The show is directed by Seth Sponhouse, CTL’s executive artistic director, with assistant director Seth Confer. Lycoming College’s Sarah Keely Decker serves as musical director for the performance, with pit conducting by William Ciabattari.
“‘Sister Act: The Musical’ promises an unforgettable experience of laughter, joy, and powerhouse vocals,” said the press release.
“We are so excited to bring ‘Sister Act’ to the Community Arts Center stage,” said Sponhouse. “This show is an electrifying mix of humor, heart, and show-stopping music, and this collaboration with Lycoming College and Penn College will make it an incredible experience for both our cast and audience.”
Based on the hit 1992 film, “Sister Act: The Musical” follows disco diva Deloris Van Cartier as she finds herself in protective custody at a convent, transforming the choir and the community with her larger-than-life personality and powerful voice. Featuring original music by Alan Menken (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid”), this feel-good musical is packed with gospel-inspired songs and non-stop entertainment.
