Blues artist Johnny Burgin returns to Williamsport next month

According to a press release, the Billtown Blues Association will welcome immensely talented guitarist and singer-songwriter Johnny Burgin for a performance at 7 p.m. on Sept. 13 at The Side Bar, 345 Market Street. Joining Burgin for the show will be HanNa PK, a soulful blues piano artist hailing from South Korea.
Performing in Williamsport is nothing new to Burgin. He received the first call for guitar from several headliners through the years at the Billtown Blues Festival, including the legendary Sam Lay and Paul Delay, who featured him in 1995 and 1999, respectively.
After serving as a Chicago sideman for several years, Burgin stepped into leading his own band, which currently enjoys an active worldwide touring schedule.
His recording catalog includes 12 releases. His first self-titled album, released in 1998, was supported by a “who’s who” in Chicago blues: Sam Lay, Robert Plunkett and Taildragger, the latter credited with giving Burgin his first opportunity to play full time in a professional blues band.
In 2015, he decided to change things up a bit after coming off the road from an extensive Japanese tour, making a stop at the famous Greaseland studios in California. With a concept of recording well-rehearsed stage material, under the guidance of Kid Anderson, Burgin completed the entire album in five hours. The release, “Greetings from Geaseland,” remains a favorite among fans.
Burgin’s 2019 release, “No Border Blues,” offers an intriguing compilation representing several Japanese blues men and women from the underground Japanese blues scene. One week after its release, the album hit multiple national and international charts.
His latest recording adventure was 2024’s “Ramblin from Coast to Coast,” which featured mostly original material in multiple cities around the country with support from selected regional players including Ben Levin, John Hay, Dylan Bishop, Jad Tariq and HanNa PK.
Burgin’s band in Williamsport will include Miguel Hernandez on bass, Gordon Grottenthaller on drums, and Hanah PK on piano.
