Williamsport Youth Choir to hold open auditions this month

The Williamsport Youth Choir, under the direction of Megan Cartwright, is gearing up for its16th season this August with open auditions, a press release said.

The Williamsport Youth Choir offers three ensemble opportunities to students in the Lycoming County region. The Prep Choir is a group of third and fourth graders that are seeking to develop a strong musical foundation through vocal exercises, learning songs, and play. The Concert Choir consists of students in fifth through 12th grade with unchanged voices. They participate in many local concerts and events, such as “The Nutcracker” at the Community Arts Center and Victorian Christmas tours around Williamsport.

At 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 24, the Williamsport Youth Choir’s Concert Choir will be making their debut performance with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra in their production of “Carmina Burana.”

The newest ensemble to the organization is the all-boys choir, Viri Voces. This is a group for boys with unchanged, mid-change, and changed voices to gain a deeper understanding of their voice from a professional vocal teacher and be empowered to share it with others. The group’s first performance will be at the Williamsport Chamber Choir & Orchestra concert in November.
