CTL announces upcoming season

The Community Theatre League recently announced that its 49th season will be a year “filled with bold musicals, timeless plays, and unique limited engagement offerings.”

“This season promises to deliver something for every theatre lover, from Broadway blockbusters to literary classics, all on stage in downtown Williamsport,” CTL said in a press release.

The season kicks off with the Limited Engagement Series and the regional premiere of “SIX: Teen Edition,” running Sept. 12-13. This reimagined version of the global smash hit “SIX” takes audiences from Tudor Queens to Pop Icons as the six wives of Henry VIII remix 500 years of heartbreak into a euphoric celebration of 21st Century girl power.

“With dazzling songs, sharp wit, and an empowering spirit, this special edition has been crafted to connect with younger performers and audiences, making it a perfect start to the season,” the press release said.

Bringing the iconic Queens to life are six powerhouse local teens: Jayda Rodriguez, Delaney Bottorf, Marley Naugle, Makayla Flournoy-Brown, Grey Jenkins and Jaslin Shan.

The show’s staff is comprised of Rubie Natal (director), Brandy Aguirre (musical director), and Maia Cenimo (choreographer).

October ushers in what CTL is calling its “spooky season.” First up is the evocative musical thriller “Jekyll & Hyde The Musical” (October 10-19), the story of one man with two souls and the devastating consequences of his experiments with good and evil. To close out the month, audiences can experience “Poe’s Midnight Dreary” (October 30-31), a limited-engagement production that brings Edgar Allan Poe’s most haunting works to life on stage, including “The Raven,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.” Together, these two productions set the perfect mood for autumn with a double-dose of suspense and atmosphere.

Following the thrills of October, the holiday season will sparkle with CTL’s production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” running December 5-14. This timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge’s miraculous transformation is filled with music, joy, and the spirit of the season, making it a favorite for families year after year.

Beyond the fall and holiday season, CTL’s 49th year continues with a wide range of productions for all ages. Audiences can look forward to the joyful and inspiring “Godspell” in February, a vibrant retelling of the Gospel of Matthew filled with music, heart, and the message that community and love are what matter most. March will bring family favorites “Charlotte’s Web” (SPROUTS Kids Theatre) and “Alice in Wonderland” (Penguin Project), followed by the high-energy, big-haired, and even bigger-hearted musical “Hairspray,” presented at the Community Arts Center. Spring will also feature the hilarious Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy “You Can’t Take It With You,” and an imaginative stage adventure with J. R. R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit.” The season will close in June with a fabulously fun fan favorite, the upbeat “Legally Blonde The Musical,” proving that determination and a little pink sparkle can go a long way.

“Season 49 is all about variety, energy, and heart,” said Seth Sponhouse, CTL’s executive artistic director. “We are presenting shows that challenge, inspire, and entertain. From chilling tales and sweeping musicals to youth-centered productions and beloved classics, there is truly something for everyone at CTL this year.”
