Creating the future: Pizza shop was owner’s destiny

Kurt Kane was destined to have his own pizza shop. While growing up in Long Island, New York, he started his restaurant career at a family-owned pizzeria at nine years old washing dishes.
"At 12 years old, I ran the back kitchen," said Kane, who now owns Long Island Pizza at 435 Hepburn St. in Williamsport.
As customers walk through the door, Kane greets many of them by name, while simultaneously tossing dough into the air.
"It's so humbling to have faithful customers day in and out supporting my dream," said Kane.
Long Island Pizza's menu is extensive with dishes that run the gamut from Italian to American cuisine. Pizza offerings include gourmet, stuffed and gluten-free pies. In addition, there are salads, appetizers, strombolis, calzones, hot and cold sandwiches and an extensive dessert menu with scrumptious cheesecakes. According to Kane, customers can't get enough of Long Island Pizza's chicken salad, garlic knots and the chicken bacon ranch pizza.
Kane often works 16 hour days and is grateful for the team that works alongside him.
"I've got such a good staff," he said.
When he isn't busy running the restaurant, Kane gives back to the community that has supported him.
He said with a smile, "People helping people is the future of this world."
