Numerous volunteer firefighters from several communities rushed to the 200 block of St. Michaels Road, just north of the Lycoming-Lewis Township line, when a large woods fire erupted about 12:15 p.m. Thursday. The fire was sparked by a 7,200-volt powerline that was pulled down by a dead tree as it was falling, according to Trout Run Fire Capt. Charles O'Brien Jr. Firefighters had to hike a considerable distance to reach the remote scene. ATVs were used as well as a helicopter that made a number of water drops on the fire, which consumed about 10 acres, O'Brien said. Concerning another incident this week, city fire officials said the cause of a fire in a living room to an apartment rented by two brothers at 917 Washington Blvd. will remain undetermined. Damage was estimated at about $5,000, city Fire Chief Sam Aungst said Thursday afternoon.
