A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 100 months or just over eight years in federal prison for his part in a conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and a narcotic Tramadol.
Ira Sims, 33, was sentenced by Chief U.S. Middle District Judge Matthew W. Brann to 100 months plus three years supervised probation. Sims previously pleaded guilty on Nov. 21, 2021.
On Aug. 27, 2020, a federal grand jury in Williamsport returned an 11-count indictment against Sims and eight co-defendants, charging them in the drug conspiracy that lasted from August 2019 to August 2020.
The drugs were distributed in and around Williamsport, with Sims responsible for distributing at least 40 grams but less than 160 grams of fentanyl, a powerful mixture that is often placed into heroin.
Sims was incarcerated on a prior offense from March 24, 2017 until Sept. 11, 2019, and was re-incarcerated on May 1, 2020.
Sims was jailed for five months of the timeframe of the conspiracy, court documents said.
Sims confessed to selling and using the drugs, having been addicted to drugs since he was a teenager.
In 2012, Sims moved to Williamsport, but he returned to Philadelphia in 2016 and remained there.
