Bail denied for Williamsport student

By Philip A. Holmes 2 min read

Bail has been denied for Lucaus Adam Butler, an 18-year-old Williamsport High School student who sent threatening messages to two other students first on Monday and again on Tuesday, state police alleged in court papers.

Butler, of 1137 Pleasant Valley Road, Cogan Station, sent the messages through the Williamsport Area School District messaging platform both days, police alleged.

On Monday, Butler sent the students a total of 10 messages that involved "lewd language and talk about sexually assaulting them," a state trooper wrote in an affidavit. Butler was supposedly upset about being removed from a chat room with other students, police said. He allegedly "threatened to kill all involved chat members for not answering him and removing him from the chat," the trooper wrote. A trooper was called to investigate these alleged threats.

On Tuesday afternoon, the two students received an additional threatening message from Butler after he learned that law enforcement was involved, police alleged.

"Which one of you called the cops on me? I am going to stab and shoot you," Butler allegedly said in the message which was accompanied with photos of a knife and rifle, police said. Both student victims "felt threatened and scared for their lives" because of the messages they received allegedly from Butler, police said.

When questioned by investigators, Butler denied sending any threatening messages, police added.

Butler was arraigned before District Judge Denise Dieter on a total of nine misdemeanor counts each of terroristic threats and harassment. She ordered him to the Lycoming County Prison without bail, she said, due to the seriousness of the charges and for allegedly threatening the lives of others.
