After motorist Brendt Kling was taken into custody by state police for suspected drunk driving early Wednesday morning, troopers gave him a "courtesy ride" to his Eldred Township home at 73 Morse Drive when they were done processing him. However, about 30 minutes after dropping him off, police were back at the home about 2:40 a.m. after Kling fired a handgun in the direction of his wife, it was alleged in an affidavit.
The woman reported that after he returned home, Kling, 34, "became agitated and loaded his firearm with live rounds, threatening to kill her. The woman retreated behind a staircase wall. 'I'm going to kill you,' Kling said as he fired one shot in the direction of the woman, striking the wall, several feet from where she was standing," court records stated. Kling fled the home when his wife called 911, police said.
Kling was arrested about two hours later when he was spotted near the house, police said. Troopers had to deploy a taser because Kling refused to comply with their orders, court documents stated. Following his arraignment on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated and simple assault, discharging a firearm in an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, resisting arrest and harassment, Kling was committed to the Lycoming County Prison after District Judge Gary Whiteman denied him bail.
