The Lycoming County Sheriff's Office is warning people of a phone scam in which the perpetrators impersonate the sheriff's office.
According to a news release, people are receiving phone calls in which the caller claims to be from the sheriff's office notifying the recipient that a warrant has been issued for their arrest and then soliciting personal and financial information.
The sheriff's office reminds Lycoming County residents not to provide credit card information or other personal information on any phone call "unless the resident personally knows the caller," the news release said.
The sheriff's office further requests anyone receiving these calls to document them and notify the sheriff's office at 570-327-2280. The sheriff's office and detectives from the Lycoming County district attorney's office are investigating the scam.
