Loyalsock Township Middle School student removed after making threats

A Loyalsock Township Middle School student was removed Monday afternoon and criminal charges are pending after the student “made threatening statements to several other students in a classroom,” Loyalsock Township School District Superintendent Jerry McLaughlin said in an email that was sent to parents.

“The threats included bringing a gun to school and threatening to shoot up the school,” McLaughlin said in the email, which he titled “School safety and security incident.”

McLaughlin said “students reported this incident to the administration. Both our school police officers and the state police were immediately contacted. Due to the severity of the actions, the state police took over the investigation.”

“Criminal charges are pending at this time,” he added.

The student’s age and gender were not provided.

A state police spokeswoman said Tuesday afternoon that no information would be released because a juvenile was involved.
