Juvenile suffers self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand
A teenage boy was treated at UPMC Williamsport for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to one of his hands that he suffered while handling a firearm inside a home in the 900 block of Poplar Street about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to city Police Chief Justin Snyder. Police and a team of paramedics rushed to the scene to investigate a report of a shooting. Officers initially believed someone else was involved, but were then told the injury was self-inflicted.
The shooting has been ruled accidental, Snyder said. Police were still trying to determine who owned the weapon and how the teen, a minor, got a hold of it.
