At the end of a preliminary hearing on Monday, District Judge Allen P. Page III threw out one state police felony count of aggravated indecent assault against Derke Lee Maggs, of 56 Orchard Ave., Hughesville, but held the 25-year-old man on a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault. The charges stem from Maggs, now free on bail, allegedly having inappropriate contact with a minor in Wolf Township between June 2020 and June 2021.
In another court case, this one handled at the office of District Judge William Solomon, state police withdrew all charges against roommates Jennifer Lynn Markwith, 42, and Jasmine Fulton-May, 37, after neither one would testify against the other. Both women were charged with assault-related offenses stemming from a domestic disturbance in their mobile home 140 Bittner Park Road, Trout Run, on March 15.
In a third criminal case, the police department at UPMC Williamsport withdrew all charges against Edward H. Fisher Jr., who was accused of assaulting a hospital staff member while he was a patient in the medical facility at 700 High St., in early April of last year. Police dropped charges of aggravated and simple assault, indecent exposure, indecent assault and harassment. District Attorney Ryan Gardner said Tuesday "significant capacity and competency issues" made it very difficult to pursue the matter in court.
