When a state trooper stopped Brandon Flanders' 2019 Toyota Yaris near High and Elmira streets in the city because of inoperable license plate lights about 2 a.m. last Aug. 13, he drove the car up over the curb, according to an affidavit. The trooper said in the court document that he immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle and he noticed the driver's eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Flanders, 22, of Fort Hood, Texas, displayed "further indicators of impairment while performing field sobriety tests. Troopers were unable to obtain a blood sample from him because he kept acting like he was going "to strike staff members" at the DUI center at any minute, the court document stated. Charged with DUI, disorderly conduct and four summary violations, Flanders has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on bail.

In another case, Charles Haney, 58, Danville, was pulled over near Route 220 and Pine Run Road in Wolf Township about 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 after state troopers saw his 2012 Subaru Impreza "weaving heavily within his travel lane and crossing over both the fog line and centerline, according to an affidavit. Haney, who admitted to "consuming alcohol" before getting behind the wheel, had a BAC of .23, police said. Charged with DUI and three summary violations, he is free on $1,500 bail.

In another case, Nail Beyah, 28, of 2441 E. Third St., also admitted that he too "consumed alcoholic beverages" before getting in the driver's seat of his 2018 Infiniti SUV that state police stopped near East Third Street and Westminster Drive because he was clocked at traveling 58

mph in a 35 mph speed zone about 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 3, according to an affidavit. While undergoing field sobriety tests, he showed "numerous clues and indicators of alcohol impairment," police said. With a BAC .12, Beyah has been charged with DUI and two summary violations. He is free on bail.

In another case, Ariana Guiser, 21, of 218 Edgewood Ave., DuBoistown, had a BAC of .16 or higher when her 2010 Subaru Outback plowed into two parked vehicles, each of which hit another parked car at West Southern Avenue near Howard Street in South Williamsport about 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 23, borough police said in court papers. Injured in the crash, she told an ambulance crew that she had "two alcoholic drinks" before getting in her car. Charged with DUI and two summary violations, Guiser is free on $5,000 bail.

Concerning another crash, Montoursville police said Thomas Clinton Thomas, 35, of 512 Chestnut St., Montoursville, had a BAC of .24 when he crashed his pickup truck into a tree in the first block of North Washington Street about 12:50 a.m. on Nov. 22, according to an affidavit. Charged with DUI, Thomas is free on bail.

Regarding another DUI-related crash, Heather Ann James, 45, of 3731 Lycoming Creek Road, Cogan Station, had cocaine in her system when her 2011 Jeep Compass plowed into 2310 Apparel, a clothing business at 2310 Lycoming Creek Road, about 12:05 a.m. on Jan. 24, Lycoming Regional police alleged in court papers. When officers arrived on the scene, James, still in the car, was not wearing anything and covered her body with a cardigan, police said. "I detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from her," the officer noted in court papers. While being treated in the back of an ambulance for injuries she suffered in the crash, James told emergency medical technicians that she had been drinking and consumed "a pint of blueberry brandy," police said in an affidavit.

James told police that she and her boyfriend, Nicholas Cardenis, 57, of Carnesville, Georgia, a passenger, "got into a fight and that he allegedly 'jerked the wheel,' causing her to lose control of the vehicle," the affidavit stated. Both James and Cardenis, who suffered a serious right ankle injury, were treated at UPMC Williamsport. Charged with DUI of a controlled substance and four summary violations, including driving with a suspended license, James has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
