A New York State man being detained in the Tioga County Prison will face further court action on charges stemming from a crime spree that began in his home state, continued near Linden and ended with a crash in a stolen vehicle in Tioga County, according to court records made public at the office District Judge Denise Dieter in Jersey Shore.
Kyle J. McNeill, 41, of Lindley, a small town in southern New York, waived his preliminary hearing on two sets of felony charges filed by state police at the Montoursville barracks, including burglary, trespassing and theft.
These charges stem from McNeill illegally entering Dale Robinson's home in the 5800 block of Route 220 in Woodward Township and stealing a 2011 Subaru Outback owned by Robinson during the early morning hours of Feb. 20, court records stated.
McNeill has admitted that before committing the burglary, he stole a Nissan Versa from Painted Post, New York, police allege. McNeill said his mother dropped him off in Corning, New York, about 7 p.m. on Feb. 19 because he had a place to stay there, police were told.
"McNeill stated he ran to Painted Post and attempted to get into about 20 vehicles before he found one (the Nissan) that was unlocked with its keys inside it," according to an affidavit.
For no reason, he then drove to Linden, where he ran out of gas," the affidavit stated. He then made his way to a nearby party and stayed until the early-morning hours of Feb. 20 when he walked to another property (Robinson's home) and stole the Subaru, police said McNeill has allegedly admitted.
McNeill said after stealing the Subaru, he drove "all over the place, (just) trying to get back to Corning. He said that for no reason, he started taking his clothes off and throwing them out the window as he was driving," the affidavit stated. McNeill went on to admit to state troopers that he kept driving until he reached Learn Road in Farmington Township, Tioga County, where he crashed into a field about 7 a.m., court records stated. He got out of the car and "walked to a nearby residence nude."
State police were called and he was soon taken into custody, but apparently not without a fight, court documents stated.
Court papers filed at the office of District Judge James Edgcomb in Elkland reveal that McNeil was charged by Mansfield state police with aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest, disarming a law enforcement officer and related offenses. The Wellsboro Gazette reported that McNeill allegedly "kicked an officer, tried to bite an officer and attempted to remove an officer's (service revolver) from a holster." He has already waived to court all the charges related to this incident and is locked up in lieu of $50,000 bail. He will likely remain incarcerated for quite some time because in addition to the $50,000 bail, Dieter has ordered him held on additional $150,000 bail related to the burglary and car theft at the Robinson property plus another $25,000 bail on a felony Montoursville state police charge of receiving stolen property stemming from the car he took from New York State and abandoned near Robinson's home.
