City police have withdrawn a felony perjury charge against Lakeisha White, of Pennsauken Township, New Jersey, according to court documents filed at the office of District Judge Aaron Biichle. Investigators had alleged that White gave false testimony at the "placement hearing" for her 17-year-old son, Keyon White, who was implicated earlier this year in an attempted homicide case in the city.
In a hearing before Judge Ryan Tira, the 46-year-old mother, under oath at the Lycoming County courthouse, testified on Jan. 26, that Keyon, who reportedly lives with his mother, was in New Jersey and not in Williamsport last Sept. 12, the day he and Nazir Thrower, also 17, went to 2400 block of Lila Lane, in the city's Newberry neighborhood, and Keyon allegedly fired multiple shots into an occupied bedroom just after 3 a.m. No one was injured.
Kenyon White was recently held on all charges in connection with the shooting while Thrower, of 601 Locust St., waived his preliminary hearing. Both teenagers remain locked up in the Lycoming County Prison.
In a statement last week, District Attorney Ryan Gardner said the case involving White's mother was dropped because investigators need additional time to explore and investigate for other witnesses and more evidence.
