While in custody on suspicion of drunk driving about 4 p.m. on April 29, Thomas Edwin Phillips told two state troopers that he "hated cops" and that they were "lucky" he didn't have his shotgun with him, according to an affidavit.
He allegedly made the remarks while the troopers were taking him to the county's DUI center.
He also told them that he "would take their duty weapons and tasers;" that he would just "end it" and that "justice would be served," the affidavit stated. Phillips, 26, of 622 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages at a local establishment after he was stopped on Commerce Park Drive in the city, police said, adding that there was a strong odor coming from his 2010 Ford Explorer.
Phillips submitted a blood sample, but his BAC results were not known at the time of this writing. Charged with DUI, terroristic threats, harassment and two summary violations, Phillips is free on $10,000 bail.
In another case, arriving at a single-vehicle crash at Penn and Sheridan streets about 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 8, city police saw the driver, Erick David Tompson, "bleeding from his lip. There was a strong odor of an alcohol beverage coming from him," according to an affidavit.
Thompson, 51, of 32 Maple Ave., was injured when he crashed his 2008 Mercedes-Benz into a concrete set of steps, police said.
Thompson, who "showed multiple signs of impairment" while undergoing a series of field sobriety tests, admitted to having "one drink" of rum, police said, adding that his BAC was .20. Charged with DUI and careless driving, he has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $5,000 bail.
In another case, the first thing a city police officer noticed about Jason Edward Beamer after stopping his 2010 Subaru Forester near Poco Farm Road and Four Mile Drive about 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 16 was "how glassy and bloodshot his eyes were," according to an affidavit.
Beamer, 48, of 2440 Northway Road Extension, was pulled over after the officer saw him run two stop signs, police said.
"I could smell a very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath as he spoke," the officer said in the court document.
Beamer, whose license was suspended due to another DUI charge, showed "signs of impairment" while performing field sobriety tests , police said. Charged with DUI and four summary violations, Beamer, who had a BAC of .20, has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $5,000 bail.
