When two passersby came upon William Lucas Carson in his pickup truck that was stopped in the southbound lane at Route 87 and Lower Manor Road in Plunketts Creek Township about 6 a.m. on Feb. 18, the 21-year-old Montoursville motorist was hanging out of the driver's side door which was slightly opened, according to an affidavit. The engine was running and the two detected "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" coming from the truck, state police said. Carson, 40, of 416 Weldon St., was already out of the vehicle when the troopers arrived on the scene. He admitted to drinking alcohol with friends hours earlier and then headed home, police said. Carson told them he "realized he was too intoxicated to drive (so) he stopped his vehicle," court records stated. "Carson exhibited numerous clues of alcohol impairment," police said. Charged with DUI and one summary violation, Carson, who had a BAC of .14, has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $5,000 bail.
In another case, arriving near Route 287 and Dam Run Road in Mifflin Township about 1:15 a.m. on April 7 to investigate a reported crash, officers found a driver, Benjamin Steven Fuller, who had "urinated himself and appeared extremely intoxicated," according to a state police affidavit. There was no accident, Fuller, 43, of 8542 Route 184, Trout Run, had simply pulled his 2016 Toyota Corolla over to the side of the road for an unknown reason, police said. Fuller admitted first to having "two beers," but then changed his mind and said he had "a beer and a half," court records stated. "He was unable to walk safely on his own" and had to be assisted by the troopers, police said, adding that Fuller was unsuccessful in completing field sobriety tests due to his intoxication. Charged with DUI and two summary violations, Fuller, who had BAC of .28, has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
In another case, When state police stopped Gerardo Rodriguez for speeding on Interstate 180 in the city about 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 3, it turned out that the 23-year-old Harrisburg man was driving with marijuana in his system, according to a blood test reported in an affidavit. He also had the drug in his possession, police said. Charged with DUI of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two summary violations, Rodriguez has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $5,000 bail.
In another case, after Joshua Green was stopped for speeding on Interstate 180 in the city about 1:50 p.m on May 29, the 36-year-old motorist from Sodus, New York, on suspicion of DUI of a controlled substance or a combination of controlled substances, according to an affidavit. He was sweating profusely and his hands were "shaking uncontrollably," according to an affidavit. Green said he smoked marijuana days earlier and that there was marijuana in the 2013 Nissan Altima. He prohibited police from searching the car so they impounded it and obtained a search warrant, court records stated. Police found marijuana, crack cocaine and paraphernalia in the vehicle, all of which was seized, Green has waived his preliminary hearing on charges of DUI and illegal drug possession offenses. He is free on $10,000 bail,
In another case, when a city police officer stopped Travis Allen Cole about 2 a.m. on March 19 for traveling the wrong way on a portion of West Fourth Street which is one way, he detected an odor of alcohol coming from the 2020 GMC station wagon, according to an affidavit. Cole, 44, of 70 Grampian Blvd., initially denied consuming any alcohol and that he had just picked up his wife and friends at a bar, the affidavit stated. However, he soon changed his story and said he had "five beers" at home before getting in his car, police said. Charged with DUI and a summary violation, Cole, who refused to submit a blood sample, has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $5,000 bail.
